Hi.

My name is Don “Dr D” Dicus and I teach Algebra and credit recovery here at Eagle Academy High School.  I have students in 9th-12th grade in both areas of study.  I have a degree in secondary education with majors in physical education and mathematics.  I have been teaching for seven years, mostly at the high school level.

I began my teaching experience in California at a high school of 2,300 students.  There I was involved as an IIUSP (Immediate Intervention for Under-performing Schools Program) coach, math department chair, Digital High School mentor, class advisor, and activities coordinator.  I also announced baseball and football games.  Just before I left California, I was serving as an Assistant Vice Principal and was enrolled in an administrative master’s degree program.

Before I became a teacher, I had experience in many different jobs and careers.    My connection to students has always been through my sporting activities.  I have coached track and field and cross country for about 14 years in high schools and college; plus, I have been an active participant in track and field since I was in 9th grade.  I competed in T&F until 1996 in the masters division.  I entered into teaching during my later coaching years when an old friend said I should be a teacher so I can do both; coach and teach.  It was because of my coaching that I decide to go back to college and become a teacher, after 12 years of being out of the classroom!

I like to travel.  I have attended several education conferences in these past few years, most of which focus on technology use in the classroom.  I like to use computers and anything that can be connected to them in my lessons.

Currently, I am working on my master’s degree in administration.  When I had spare time in California, (yeah right!), I went salmon fishing or drove to the coast to dive for abalone and spear fish.  Now that I have returned to Idaho, I look forward to finding new fishing holes here in the Gem state.  Contact me any time at dicus.don@meridianschools.org
